HAKONE, Kanagawa -- Japanese silver grass stretching over a wide swath of areas in this east Japan town has been at the height of its viewing season, attracting a throng of tourists.

The sea of silver grass spreads across the Sengokuhara Susuki Sogen grass field spanning some 18 hectares at the foot of Mount Daigatake. Visitors can stroll along a 700-meter-long trail among the field.

Many people visit the area during weekends to admire the silver grass gleaming in the sunset. The best viewing season continues until around mid-November, according to the town's tourism department.

A 54-year-old office worker from Yokohama who visited the spot with two family members commented, "The silver grass was shining in the sunset and was so beautiful. I was moved as I could feel the touch of autumn."
