GEORGE TOWN: Police have ruled out foul play in the tragic death of a six-year-old girl who fell to her death at a hotel in Tanjung Bungah on Monday (Oct 18).
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said a post-mortem revealed that the girl's death was caused by serious injuries due to the fall.
"There is no criminal element. We have classified the case as sudden death," he said on Tuesday (Oct 19).
ACP Soffian said the girls' body had been claimed by her family.
He added that the police were still investigating the cause of the incident and urged witnesses to contact the nearest police station.
The girl and her family from Sungai Petani, Kedah, who spent the night at the hotel, had gone for a swim when the incident occurred at about 11.30am.
It was reported that the family were on the ground floor when the girl suddenly dashed into an open elevator.
Her family and hotel staff searched for about 10 minutes before they found the girl on the second floor of the hotel.
