Brexit trade debate LIVE: 'Nine deals!' Thornberry silenced as bitter attack backfires

Boris Johnson has committed to a free trade deal with New Zealand which he promises will benefit both businesses and consumers. The groundbreaking new deal will cut costs for exporters and blow open New Zealand's job market for British professionals. Tariffs will be removed on UK goods including clothing, ships and bulldozers, and on New Zealand goods including wine, honey and kiwi fruits.

However, the Labour and the National Farmers Union (NFU) has argued the deal could hurt UK farmers and lower food standards.

According to the Government's own estimates, the deal is not likely to increase UK economic growth or GDP.

But much like the trade deal recently struck with Australia, the UK hopes this agreement will be a step towards joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) - a trade bloc that includes Australasia, Canada, Mexico, and Japan among others.

The debate will kick off in the House of Commons at 9.30am.
