KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry will take heed of the lessons learnt from Sabah with the upcoming Melaka election, says Khairy Jamaluddin.
After the Sabah polls in 2020, Malaysia experienced a wave of Covid-19 infections.
"There are several things in Sabah we will look into before finalising the Melaka standard operating procedure (SOP)," the Health Minister said at a press conference here on Thursday (Oct 21).
However, he noted that there were no Covid-19 vaccinations and the Delta variant was not widespread then.
"What we must ensure is that what happened in Sabah will not be repeated," he said
Khairy also said that the Election Commission (EC) would present their SOP to the Special Committee for Pandemic Management on Friday (Oct 22), which is chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
"At the same meeting, the Health Ministry will give its review of the proposed SOP.
Polling day for the Melaka elections is on Nov 20, with nomination set for Nov 8.
The Sarawak election is also speculated to be held at the end of this year.
