MELAKA: Six Covid-19 positive staff members of the Melaka Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) have forced the council to temporarily halt its administration operation until next Wednesday (Oct 27).
MPHTJ president Datuk Shadan Othman said the decision on the temporary shutdown was reached after the recommendation from the Melaka Health Department.
"We don't want other staff or those visiting the MPHTJ office to be infected, and we took a preemptive action to shut the administration section," he said when interviewed on Friday (Oct 22).
Shadan said disinfection works are being carried out at the office and all measures are also in place to ensure the reopening of the operation as soon as possible.
It's learnt that dozens of MPHTJ staff members are under quarantine for close contact with their positive colleagues.
Shadan said the ground operations will go on as normal.
"Works like cleaning, rubbish collection and enforcement will continue as normal," he said.
He added that those who need to do transactions with MPHTJ could opt for the online platforms.
