PETALING JAYA: A large majority or about 98% of Sunday's 5,666 new Covid-19 infections on Sunday (Oct 24) are either mild or asymptomatic, with 107 cases or 1.9% in categories 3, 4 and 5," says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The number of Malaysia's new Covid-19 case figures remained below the 6,000 mark for the second day straight, with 5,666 new cases.

In his daily Covid-19 statement, the Health director-general said there were 20 imported cases and the rest were local transmissions.

About 3.5% of the new cases are foreigners.

Malaysia's total cumulative cases since the start of the pandemic is now 2,431,716.

In the same 24-hour span, 6,978 patients were discharged from treatment.

This brings the total number of recoveries in the country to 2,327,369 – a recovery rate of 95.7%.

Currently, there are 601 patients in intensive care units (ICU), with 299 cases on ventilator support.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry also identified three new Covid-19 clusters – two in Johor and one in Selangor.

One of them is a workplace cluster in Kluang, Johor where 17 cases have been confirmed.

Another is a high-risk group cluster in Johor Baru, which has 10 confirmed cases.

The Selangor cluster is a community outbreak in Sabak Bernam where 15 cases have been detected.

Currently, there are 539 active clusters nationwide.

To date, 5,183 clusters in the country have been declared as closed.
