KOTA KINABALU: The Opposition Sabah Pakatan Harapan hopes to complete a preliminary draft for the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on bipartisan cooperation with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) soon.

"It (draft) is almost completed," Sabah Pakatan chairman Datuk Christina Liew (pic) said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 24).

Liew’s statement comes after she and other state Pakatan leaders jointly said that they were forming a special committee to look at clear guidelines for a framework for cooperation with the GRS-led state government.

"Any conclusion to the mutual agreement on the terms of bipartisan cooperation with the government would be announced to the media at the right time," she said.

The matter of an MOU with the GRS government was still premature, Liew added.

"I hope this will clear the confusion over premature media reports on the matter," she said.

Liew, who is also Sabah PKR chief, said that they started a discussion on the proposed MOU about a month ago.

"All component parties had been actively involved in the discussion under the umbrella of Sabah Agenda Reform, which emphasised on the stability of the government, economic recovery and control of Covid-19 in the state.

"Other pertinent issues covered are related to Sabah's constitutional rights, including the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63)," she said.

Liew added that she could not chair the Sabah Pakatan meeting on Saturday night (Oct 23) and was represented by Sabah Pakatan secretary Mustapha Sakmud.

Liew said she was admitted to the hospital for minor surgery for a fractured wrist.

"I had a bad fall while visiting my constituents in the Tawau parliamentary constituency for a food basket assistance programme recently," she explained.

Sabah Pakatan comprising DAP, PKR, Amanah and Upko were former coalition partners of Parti Warisan Sabah, which has kept out of the bipartisan agreement at the federal level.

It is understood that Warisan, the main state Opposition party, is also staying out of any bipartisan agreement at the state level.
