A December deadline has been set for the UK and the European Union to find a solution on the Northern Ireland Protocol, according to Lord Frost. Addressing the European scrutiny committee, the Brexit minister said both sides wanted the dispute over the post-Brexit terms "settled one way or the other" before the winter. If a resolution can not be reached by the end of autumn, the UK will trigger Article 16.
A major sticking point has been the role of the European Courts of Justice (ECJ) as the arbitrator, whose responsibility it is to oversee disputes.
Lord Frost argues there must be an independent, balanced authority between the EU and UK, which ECJ oversight does not provide.
