PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 4,782 new Covid-19 cases on Monday (Oct 25), for a cumulative total of 2,436,498.

       Health director general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said a total of 7,414 recoveries were also recorded, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,334,783 cases.

       "607 cases were treated in intensive care units with 300 cases requiring ventilator support.

       "Six new clusters were detected, bringing the number of active clusters to 528," he said in a statement on Monday.

       He said of the 4,782 cases recorded, 96 cases were in Categories three, four and five while the remaining cases were from Categories one and two.

       "Nearly 243 million Covid-19 cases have been recorded globally with over 4.9 million deaths recorded, according to statistics from the Johns Hopkins University.

       "Roughly speaking, the countries of South-East Asia show a declining trend of Covid-19 cases in recent times.

       "Malaysia also shows a declining trend while Singapore and Brunei show an increasing trend," he said, adding that while Malaysia registered 180.91 cases per million, Singapore and Brunei showed 584.86 cases and 499.88 cases per million respectively.

       He said even though Malaysia showed a declining trend, compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP) must continue to avoid an increase in cases such as in neighbouring countries when education and economic sectors were opened.

       "Until Oct 23, a total of 25,161,659 individuals have registered for and received Covid-19 vaccinations.

       He said 94.5% of the adult population had received at least one dose of a vaccine while 72.4% had been fully vaccinated.
