AN ex-soldier today pleaded guilty to sending death threats to former BBC Breakfast host Louise Minchin and threatening to “rape” her teenage daughter.

Carl Davies, 44, left the presenter, 53, in a “constant state of anxiety” after sending the terrifying messages via Instagram during his horrifying stalking campaign, a court heard.

He also targeted her 19-year-old daughter Mia through the same social media platform.

Davies initially denied two offences of stalking involving serious alarm or distress and had faced a trial, but changed his plea at the last minute.

He is the ex-boyfriend of Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts and was handed a lifetime restraining order in 2019 for threatening to stab and burn her.

He’d set up 35 fake social media accounts to send thousands of Twitter and Instagram messages to the pop star.

Just 11 months later, between July 14 and July 17, 2020, he then targeted Louise and her daughter.

He has now been warned he faces jail after admitting to posting intimidating comments and threats on their Instagram accounts.

A previous court hearing was told how these included death threats to Louise and also one which read: “Your daughter will be raped.”

Davies also posted details revealing where the family lived.

He changed his plea to guilty after his lawyer told the court he “could not recognise the behaviour” and claimed the comments must have been sent when he was drunk.

Judge Nicola Saffman warned Davies at Caernarfon Crown Court, north Wales: “You know, and you are realistic, the most likely sentence will be one of immediate imprisonment.

”This is a repeat offence and the content of the messages sent was extremely alarming, very serious, very intimidating and clearly intended to maximise distress of the complainants in this case.”

Previously a court heard Louise lived in a "constant state of anxiety".

The judge adjourned sentencing for a psychiatric report to be prepared on the former soldier, who claims to be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Defence barrister Duncan Bould said Davies appreciated his previous record against his ex Nicola would be a “worrying” feature for the court.

He targeted her four years after their relationship broke down.

He was given a 15-month prison sentence in 2017, suspended for two years, and a lifetime restraining order after admitting stalking.

       'CONSTANT STATE OF ANXIETY'

Davies, of Flintshire, north Wales, had previously denied the two offences against Louise, which both took place in July last year.

He will be sentenced on December 15 and was banned from contacting Louise or her daughter, entering their village or approaching BBC premises or film sets.

The news comes just a month after Louise quit her BBC Breakfast role after 20 years on the show.

She said she’d finally had enough of 3.40am starts and wanted to spend more time with her daughters.

Until 2011, Davies was in the armed forces, serving in Iraq, and became a close protection officer.

The most recent offences took place under a suspended sentence for assaulting his father.

In February 2019 he bit a chunk out of his dad's arm during a drunken argument.

He was given a 12-month jail sentence, suspended for two years.
