Police have arrested two 15-year-old boys in connection with the shooting death Sunday of a man in Park City.
The youths, one from Gurnee and the other from Waukegan, have been charged in the death of James Hicks, 27, of North Chicago, who was shot Sunday after an argument broke out during a marijuana sale, police said.
The Waukegan youth, according to authorities, has been charged with first-degree murder. Both he and the Gurnee teen are also facing juvenile counts of armed robbery, according to the Lake County Major Crime Task Force, which investigated the shooting along with Park City Police.
The shooting happened at around noon Sunday in the 700 block of Sharon Avenue. Police said Hicks was a back seat passenger in a vehicle carrying two other people that had arrived at that location to sell marijuana to two others, police said.
During the transaction, an argument erupted, and the Waukegan youth produced a firearm and started shooting, police said. Hicks was struck and exited the vehicle before he collapsed, according to reports.
Police officers who responded to the scene said they found Hicks unresponsive. He was taken to Vista East Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said Hicks died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The two youths are being held at the county juvenile facility in Vernon Hills.
