Paris alert: Major station sealed off and evacuated by police

       Armed police were forced to evacuate the Gare du Nord station on Wednesday following a bomb threat. In pictures across social media, large numbers of people were seen outside of the station. The police also cordoned off the streets in the surrounding area.

       Train services were suspended due to the bomb scare.

       Rail operator TER, reported an incident at 2.39pm (3.39pm local time).

       Fellow operator, RER had previously stated train services will not resume before 6pm.

       As of 3.23pm, they said: "Traffic is interrupted between Paris Gare du Nord and Stade de France, in both directions of traffic, following luggage left behind at Paris Gare du Nord."

       Another user, named Robin James said: "Living in interesting times as always.

       "Gare du Nord has been evacuated due to an unattended baggage.

       "Armed police are everywhere.

       "Walking chaperoned through the empty Eurostar platform was eerie."

       As referenced, it is thought the bomb scare was spared due to an unattended bag.

       According to reports, the station has now reopened.

       Services resumed shortly after it reopened at 6pm local time.

       The station is one of the largest in Europe.

       It also serves as the terminal for the Eurostar service running between London and the French capital.
