PETALING JAYA: The government will procure Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines for children in the country as the US Food and Drug Administration has recommended the vaccine for those between the ages of five to 12, says Khairy Jamaluddin.
"With the FDA panel recommending Pfizer jab for 5 to 12 years old, Malaysia will go forward with our procurement of Pfizer for kids. We will also look at other options like Sinovac," the Health Minister tweeted on Friday (Oct 29).
Khairy added that schools would be able to reopen safely as 82.4% of the nation’s adolescents were partially vaccinated and 62% fully vaccinated.
On Oct 26, the FDA’s vaccine advisory committee had endorsed Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine for children ages five to 11.
Pfizer had said that its vaccine for children was more than 90% effective in preventing asymptomatic infection.
