According to National Highways South-West, there are 70-minute delays along the M5 due to the incident. The accident occurred on junction 22 of the M5 on Friday afternoon. National Highways said: "There are 70 minute delays on the approach to this M5 incident (above usual journey times) spanning eight miles back to J22."

       They revealed a car was stranded on lane two, heading northbound on junction 20 Clevedon.

       A previous statement read: "M5 Northbound J20 Clevedon to J19 Portishead, there is a car stranded in lane two - we are en route.

       "Traffic is moving very slow past scene."

       Drivers are also experiencing delays of up to 45 minute delays along the A30.

       Traffic monitoring provider Inrix said: "Long delays and queueing traffic on A30 Eastbound from A30 (Fingle Glen, Pathfinder Village) to M5 J31 (Okehampton turn off, Exeter).

       "Travel time is around 45 minutes.

       "Traffic not helped by an accident on the M5."

       Services had previously reported that due to an accident, traffic had been held on the M5.

       An Inrix update reported: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident, seven cars involved on M5 Northbound at J30 A376 Sidmouth Road (Exeter / Service Areas).

       "Congestion to A30 (Okehampton turn off).

       "Traffic has been held since 14:10."

       It is unclear how long the delays could remain as the emergency has been described as "ongoing".

       A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving seven vehicles on the M5 northbound carriageway, between junction 29 and 30, at around 1.30pm today, October 29.

       "There are not thought to be any injuries.

       "The incident is ongoing."

       BBC Travel SouthWest reported traffic was moving very slowly.

       They said: "On the M5 northbound around Junction 30 at Exeter one lane is blocked due to an accident. Traffic is very slow-moving."

       National Highways South West also warned a lane had been closed due to the collision.

       They said: "Northbound between J31 and J30 Exeter, we have a lane 3 closure in place due to a seven vehicle traffic collision."

       It is unclear if there have been any casualties from the accident today.
