       Things fall apart

Colin and Chris Weir won £161million on the EuroMillions in 2011 – making them the 22nd richest people in Scotland and propelling them onto the Sunday Times Rich List.

They splashed out on a stunning mansion and their humble first buys included a checked sports jacket, a computer and a tractor.

The Scottish couple initially bought Knock House near Largs, but they sold their mansion in favour of an even bigger pad in Troon. They donated much of their money and set up The Weir Charitable Trust in 2013.

Sadly, in April 2019, the pair announced they were divorcing. They had been married for 38 years before being hit by the lottery curse, and shared two grown-up children, Carly and Jamie.

Just three months later, Colin tragically died of kidney failure and sepsis aged 72.

Granny who stole £33,000 of scratchcards escapes jail

A gran stole £33,000 worth of Lotto scratchcards from a corner shop while working behind the till, a court heard today.

Trusted shop assistant Sheila Hancock, 60, took thousands of cards from the display without paying for them.

And if she saw it was a winning card after scratching off the silver foil she took the prize money out of the till, it was said.

Puzzled owner Virajkumar Patel couldn’t understand why his busy store wasn’t making a profit despite staying open throughout the pandemic.

So he checked CCTV and was horrified when he saw Hancock repeatedly helping herself to cards and winnings. York crown court heard she had become addicted to the “easy” gambling and got away with the deceit from January 2020 until April of this year.

       Boob jobs for sisters

Sarah Cockings from Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear won a whopping £3million in April 2005 when she was just 21.

She claimed to “live a very normal life” despite her vast fortune, and after the money dropped in her account she treated her siblings Emma and Alex to matching boob jobs.

“Just after I won, I bought my two sisters boob jobs but now I've had one myself, because mine were wrecked by breastfeeding,” she told the Daily Mail in 2019.

Sarah, who said she “loved” her surgically enhanced chest, also went back to university so that her mum could have a “picture of me graduating”.

Eight years after winning the lottery she decided to quit her job as a social worker and pursue modelling opportunities, where she’s found ultimate happiness.

“Up until now there’s no bad part of being a millionaire – I’ve loved every minute,” Sarah added.

Lottery winning coupke visit UK's most haunted location

A ghost-hunting couple who won the National Lottery have used their winnings to visit one of the UK's "most haunted" locations.

Laura Hoyle, 39, and Kirk Stevens, 37, from Nottingham, have been ghost-hunters for years, and said the visit to Nottingham's Museum of Justice was a "dream come true"

Formerly a courtroom, prison, and police station, the Museum of Justice was voted the most haunted site in the UK by TV programme Most Haunted.

Mr Stevens said: "It was a dream come true... We would never have been able to enjoy an event like this before the win.

"Ask any paranormal investigator what their dream is, and they'd say good equipment and to have access all areas to a venue like the Justice Museum."

The couple won the Set For Life draw, meaning they will receive £10,000 every month for the next 30 years, on March 1 this year, however it was not until nearly two weeks later that they realised.

       Plumber's scratchard win (continued...)

Sean Irwin said he started to play the scratchcard in his car before returning to the site where he was working.

"I had only played half of it when I saw that I had matched two number 22s and revealed the prize symbol for £300,000," he explained.

"I thought I was seeing things, and checked, then triple-checked, I even read the rules on the back of the scratchcard."

Not trusting himself, he drove steadily back to the site and called his boss over to sit in the passenger seat and look at the scratchcard.

His boss agreed it looked like a winner and said Mr Irwin should call Camelot.

"It was a classic moment, there's me and the boss sitting in my little Ford Focus calling Camelot to confirm I'd won £300,000," he said.

Sean Irwin, of Brentwood in Essex, said he wants to make the most of every opportunity after losing his father to cancer this year.

The 36-year-old bought his winning scratchcard from a newsagent in Brentwood where he went to buy bottles of water for himself and a workmate.

He was left with exactly £3 in change so decided to buy a National Lottery Ruby Doubler Scratchcard.

The scratchcards cost £3 and prizes range from £3 up to the top prize of £300,000.

Mr Irwin said he started to play the scratchcard in his car before returning to the site where he was working

The more recently added Lucky Stars 10, 11 and 12 have been drawn less.

In the UK, a single entry to a EuroMillions draw costs £2.50.

What happens if EuroMillions prize money isn’t claimed?

If no UK players come forward within 180 days then the prize money, plus all the interest it has generated while it is held in trust, goes to National Lottery-funded projects across the UK.

The National Lottery have said: “Our players change the lives of individuals as well as communities by raising, on average, over £33 million for National Lottery-funded projects every week.”

Colin and Chris Weir, of Largs, North Ayrshire, became one of Britain’s wealthiest couples when they won over £161m in 2011.

Adrian and Gillian Bayford, from Haverhill, Suffolk, picked up £148,656,000 after they played the draw on August, 10, 2012, while Jane Park became Britain’s youngest lottery winner when she scooped up £1 million in 2013.

       What if

Euromillions winner Adrian Bayford is “consumed with guilt” as his son fights for life after a horror quad bike smash, friends say.

The lad, 13, was hit by a car driven by his sister, 15, in the sprawling grounds of their Cambridgeshire mansion.

The Sun exclusively revealed details of the horror smash as the boy is fighting for his life in intensive care with his family at his bedside.

His sister raised the alarm after her brother was flung from his machine and through a fence.

It is understood the car and quad bike were gifts bought for the kids by former postie Adrian, 49.

       Restraining order (continued...)

Donna previously revealed how Gareth, who told her he was separated, splurged on taking her to glitzy events and luxury holidays.

She claimed he told her their relationship had to be kept secret as he didn't want to give his wife ammunition if they were to divorce.

But Catherine spotted the pair on TV at an Anthony Joshua fight in 2017 and they separated later that year.

Donna later said she felt "wounded" when the relationship ended and Gareth stopped talking to her.

She was previously slapped with an injunction banning her from spilling the beans in her memoir.

EuroMillions winner celebrated by 'drinking tea all night'

While most lottery winners would be tempted to splash out on fancy Champagne, Anne Canavan had very different plans.

The mum, from Northern Ireland, couldn’t believe her luck and felt fate had intervened after her £1million EuroMillions win in 2015.

On the day she picked the winning numbers, Anne joked with a neighbour that it was “about time someone from around here won”.

Normally she “always waited a week” before checking her lottery ticket but that night things were different.

“At 1am, I suddenly had the urge to check the results so I switched my laptop on, when I realised I’d won I woke my daughter up," she recalled.

“It took half an hour to convince her that I wasn’t joking, and after that we stayed up all night with cups of tea planning what to do with the money.”

Anne went on to spend £50,000 renovating her four-bedroom house and funnelled other funds into inventions - including self-sealing gift pouches.

£1m scratchcard winner went back to work

Winning £1m was sheer luck for Jamie Heavens, who purchased a Millionaire Riches Scratchcard after watching a customer in front of him do it.

After leaving the petrol station, he pulled into a layby to scratch it off and was gobsmacked when he won.

However, hardworking Jamie, from Bournemouth, had no intention of quitting his day job.

Jamie told the Mirror: “It was 7.30 in the morning and I still had a day’s shift ahead… I won a million pounds and earned another £100 for my shift.”

After that the roofer and his fiance Danielle spent £25,000 on a lavish wedding with “a band, a videographer and a massive marquee”.

He bought a business but feels rather happy about his new job, adding: “I still work but now I’m my own boss!”

EuroMillion couple bought a WHOLE private field for their dog

Dogs are often described as “man’s best friend” but it seems lucky pooch Lucy may appreciate that more than most.

She was found “starving and terrified” by Faye and Richard Davies after being “abandoned on the mountainside” in Brecon Beacons, Wales, back in 2018.

Weeks later the couple won £1million on the EuroMillions and, after recognising Lucy was too scared to go out for walks, paid £20,000 for a private field.

Faye told the Mirror: “She was terrified of people, of other dogs and water, so dog walks were a nightmare.

“Then, weeks after our win, a half-acre field came up for sale just down the road [and] we bought it for Lucy.”

Since then she’s been “happy and carefree” while out on her “safe place for walkies” and has even learned to play with other dogs.

Jackpot couple spent £20K renovating public toilets

Retirees Dennis and Shirley Banfield appeared to have gone a little potty when plotting how to spend their £18million National Lottery win in 2018.

The couple from Winterbourne, Bristol, paid for new lavatories at a local community centre after discovering they needed replacing.

They were determined to give something back after visiting the venue for countless celebrations including wedding receptions, anniversaries and children’s parties.

In 2019, Denis told the Mirror: “When we read that it needed new toilets, we donated £20,000 for the work and cut the ribbon outside the Ladies and Gents ourselves at an official ceremony

“We joined a lunch at the centre… and a man got up to use the loo [and] said, 'I'm just off to use the Banfields' which really made our day!"
