LOS ANGELES (Kyodo) -- Los Angeles Angels two-way player Shohei Ohtani has returned home to Japan for the offseason, sources familiar with the matter said Saturday.

Video captured by local news showed the casually dressed 27-year-old being escorted by three airport staff at Tokyo's Haneda airport on Saturday evening along with his interpreter Ippei Mizuhara.

In addition to winning the Commissioner's Historic Achievement Award, Ohtani has been named Player of the Year by Baseball Digest, Baseball America and Sporting News. He also won Players Choice Awards for MLB player of the year and American League Outstanding Player of the Year.

Moving forward, there are still plenty more awards the Angels star could collect. He is the runaway favorite for the AL MVP, which will be announced on Nov. 18, and AL Silver Slugger, which will be revealed on Nov. 11.

Ohtani hit .257 with 46 homers, 103 runs, 100 RBIs, and 26 stolen bases in 537 at-bats. He also started 23 games on the mound and posted a 9-2 record, a 3.18 ERA, and a 1.09 WHIP in 130-1/3 innings.
