TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Akira Amari, the secretary general of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party, intends to resign from the No. 2 post of the ruling party after he was projected to lose in his constituency in Sunday's general election, a source familiar with the matter said Monday.
Amari, who became secretary general in October, has notified senior party officials of his plan to step down, the source said, after he was set to lose in his single-seat district in Kanagawa Prefecture, near Tokyo.
