PM Update: Frost advisory for the immediate area tonight, with a freeze warning west
2021-11-03 00:00:00.0     华盛顿邮报-华盛顿特区     原网页

       * Freeze warning tonight for western suburbs | Frost advisory tonight in the immediate area and east, including the District *

Well, that was a day. For the first time this young cold season, it felt cold in a crummy kind of way. The rawness was thanks to a combination of steady showers most of the time, combined with occasionally gusty northwest winds. Although temperatures reached the low to mid-50s this morning before the rain, the region spent a good chunk of the afternoon in the mid-40s to near 50. Temperatures are set to dip to their lowest values of the season (so far) tonight.

Through tonight: It’ll the first of several legitimately chilly nights. Once showers end this evening, as skies clear, temperatures will fall into the 30s area wide. Readings will fall near or a few degrees below freezing for western suburbs and into the mid- and upper 30s elsewhere. Winds will be light from the northwest. The National Weather Service is looking at the potential for temperatures as low as 34 in the frost advisory area, and as low as 29 in the freeze warning zone. It should be enough to end the growing season west.

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Mainly sunny skies in the morning will give way to some clouds with time. An occasionally gusty breeze from the northwest will make highs in the low 50s often feel chillier than that. We’ve reached the time of year that you need to find the sunny side of the street for extra warmth!

Freeze warning: Currently under a freeze warning, Dulles seems set to be the first major local climate location to threaten freezing this year. Over the past 30 years, the average for the first night at or below freezing is Oct. 19. Just last year, the first instance wasn’t until Nov. 2. On the flip side, it would tie for the sixth latest on record (since 1963) there if it occurs tonight.

Washington’s average first night in the 30s is Oct. 27. Last year it happened Nov. 2.
