MELAKA: Police are looking for several persons to help in the investigation of a video and photograph going viral which claimed that a political party was enticing voters with food and money.
State CID chief Asst Comm Azlan Abu said the footage showed elderly folk lining up to receive food packs with a RM50 note tied to each of the polystyrene boxes.
He said the photograph of the food packs and cash was also uploaded on the Facebook accounts of several individuals on Thursday.
“There were various comments under the Facebook post claiming that the food packs and cash were meant (to solicit) for votes for the upcoming Melaka election.
“The comments claimed the event was held in Melaka Tengah district, but this was found to be false,” he said yesterday.
ACP Azlan said preliminary checks showed that there were no political party flags or logos embossed on the food packets.
He said the investigation was being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988.
He said police have also opened 16 investigation papers between Oct 25 and Nov 4 on offences relating to the Melaka polls.
