KOTA KINABALU: A woman died while her two friends sustained injuries following an accident due to an attempt to avoid a dog on the road at Jalan Gudang Empat, Tawau, on Friday (Nov 5).
The victims - Nur Fadhilah Abdul Salam, 23; Suhaieri Sumardi, 19; Haslinda Hasbullah, and their driver Nur Fazila Ridwan, 20 - were headed for dinner in one car prior to the 9.20pm accident.
Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Peter Umbuas said as they were reaching the accident area, the driver had swerved to avoid a dog, resulting in the vehicle crashing.
“A woman was pronounced dead at the scene while two others comprising the driver and Suhaieri sustained injuries,” he said in a statement Saturday (Nov 6).
Haslinda escaped unscathed, he said.
All victims worked in the same supermarket.
In another mishap, a man was killed when his vehicle collided with a four-wheel-drive vehicle that had swerved into his lane along Jalan Papar Lama - Penampang, near Penampang here on Friday evening.
Penampang OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Haris Ibrahim said in the accident, the driver of the four-wheel-drive vehicle, a 28-year-old man, had lost control of his vehicle before swerving into the opposite lane.
He said the victim, also 28, was driving in the opposite direction and could not avoid the four-wheel-drive in time.
“The deceased was pronounced dead at the scene, where he was believed to have died instantly following a broken neck after the impact of the crash,” he said.
The four-wheel-drive vehicle driver and his two passengers escaped with minor injuries.
DSP Haris said the case is being investigated for reckless driving under the Road Transport Act 1987.
