A MUM has died just weeks after her son was killed in a car crash with two other pals.

       Tributes have poured in for Sara Jane Smith less than two weeks after her son Martin Ward, 18, was killed in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

       Martin was killed alongside Mason Hall, 19, and Ryan Geddes, 19, on October 24 after their Ford Fiesta collided with a tree.

       The three friends were pronounced dead at the scene as an investigation into their deaths continues.

       Speaking after the tragedy, Sara said the fatal crash didn’t “seem real” adding both Martin and Mason would be “forever in my heart”.

       The devastated mum had told The Star: “Mason was a very close friend of Martin’s. They have basically grown up together and he was like a stepson to me.

       “Martin was a lovable little rug and he had the biggest heart out of most people I know.

       “They were both such loving kids and will be so sadly missed. This shouldn’t have happened, they were far too young to have this happen. They hadn’t even lived their lives.”

       Dozens of tributes have now been paid to Sara online, with loved ones describing the mum as a much-loved friend and talented horse rider.

       One person wrote: "Can't believe I'm writing this after everything that has happened this year already. RIP Sara Jane Smith, many memories I'll never forget."

       Another added: "RIP Sarah Jane Smith, such tragic news, go be with your lad now xx".

       The heart-breaking news follows a series of tragedies in Sara's family this year.

       In January, two relatives died in a previous crash, The Star reports.

       Josh Hydes, 20, died alongside his 24-year-old uncle, Tommy Hydes, when the car they were travelling in ploughed through railings on Meadowhall Way and plunged into the River Don on Saturday, January 30.

       Following Martin’s death just months later, the family issued an appeal for as many bikes and quads as possible to join a procession for his funeral.

       They said motorbikes were “one of the things he (Martin) loved most”.
