KUALA LUMPUR: Many of the claims posted under the Edisi Siasat account on Twitter were sensationalised, says the country's top cop.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said so far, 13 investigation papers have been opened against Edisi Siasat.
"Most of the news from Edisi Siasat is fabricated and sensationalised.
"All the claims stated, if involving the police, were forwarded to the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department to be authenticated," Acryl Sani said at a press conference at Berjaya Times Square on Monday (Nov 8).
The Edisi Siasat account had alleged there was corruption involving high-ranking enforcement agency officials, including from the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
He said investigations are underway to identify those responsible for the Twitter account.
In an unrelated matter, Acryl Sani said he would be heading to Melaka to inspect SOP compliance during the polls.
"I will be going to the Melaka police headquarters to meet the state police chief.
"The SOP will be monitored to ensure that all guidelines are followed throughout the campaign period," he said.
Earlier, Acryl Sani launched the commercial crime prevention campaign at the mall.
The IGP, the former Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director, said the campaign was timely due to the rise of cases, especially online scams.
"If it's the police calling you, we will just confirm your identity and schedule a meeting at the police station, nothing more," he said.
He also urged the public to be vigilant against potential online scams.
