KYOTO -- An 83-year-old man was arrested on Nov. 9 on suspicion of stalking a 28-year-old woman who runs a restaurant in Kyoto's Gion district.
Kyoto Prefectural Police's Higashiyama Police Station arrested the self-proclaimed corporate executive from Kyoto's Kamigyo Ward on suspicion of violating the stalker regulation law. According to the police station, he had been a regular customer at the woman's restaurant for several years, and apparently had a crush on her.
The man's alleged stalking behavior includes barging into the woman's restaurant in the city's Higashiyama Ward at around 11 p.m. on Oct. 5, and calling her cellphone and the restaurant four times between around 4:25 p.m. on Oct. 7 and 12:25 a.m. on Oct. 23. He has reportedly admitted to the allegations.
According to the police station, the woman consulted police on Oct. 4 about the suspect calling her repeatedly and at all hours of the day. The police gave him a verbal warning the following day. He has apparently told police that he took the warning lightly.
