Police in France have come under attack from missiles and bottles and riot cops attempted to break up a march by hundreds of anti-Emmanuel Macron protestors on Sunday. French officers scuffled with demonstrators amid a face-off with angry protestors in central Paris. Violence clashes were captured on film as the police line attempted to hold back the crowd carrying a large banner attacking mandatory Covid vaccination and health passports.

       Police can be seen striking demonstrations with batons and riot police with shields attempted to push the marchers back.

       Bottles were launched at police as the protest descended into chaos.

       Officers later appeared to switch tactics and allow the march to pass but with a heavy police presence.

       At one point the protestors serge forward threatening to break through the police cordon at the head of the march.

       A number of protestors wore yellow high-vis tops a symbol of the so-called yellow vest movement in France.

       The yellow vest movement was originally sparked by high fuel prices before escalating into a broader anti-Macron movement.

       Speaking to Express.co.uk, James Shields, Professor of French politics at Warwick University described the 'Gilet Jaunes' as President Macron's "Achilles heel."

       He said: “This was a spontaneous protest movement that stuck at the heart of France’s government establishment.”

       Macron said on Tuesday that booster shots for the COVID vaccine will be extended to those aged 50 and over from early December, and that the booster would become a requirement for health passes to remain valid

       The health pass, required to enter restaurants and bars, to go to the gym or a conference, and for long-distance train and plane journeys provides proof that a person has been vaccinated against COVID-19, has recently had a negative coronavirus test or has newly recovered from the virus.

       Macron also urged those not yet vaccinated to do so.

       He said: "To those not yet vaccinated: Get vaccinated.

       Macron added that Europe was seeing a fifth wave of infections and that in France there had been an alarming rise in the number of COVID-19 hospital patients and in the rate of spread.
