FIVE teams from SJK(T) Mak Mandin in Butterworth won medals in an international innovation competition organised by the Education Ministry, Makkal Osai reported.
Representing Penang at the International Young Scientist, Innovation Exhibition (IYSIE 2021), the teams took home a special commendation award along with two gold, two silver and a bronze medal.
The team comprising P. Janani, S. Thanveer, V. Sanjitha, G. Harini Ratha and K. Vasundra which developed a heartbeat monitoring device received a gold medal and the special award.
S. Anisha, V. Sharan Raj, A. Nimalan and M. Haris received a second gold medal for their innovation of a handheld cooling device.
A lifesaving lock, and a water treatment recycling device received silver medals, while the bronze was awarded for a foldable rolling table.
Parent-Teacher Association chairman Yaliswaran Tharmalingam and school headmaster Gunasekaran Nallathambi thanked all parents, teachers, board members, former students and association members in helping the students to prepare for the competition.
The students, who were from Year Three to Five, went through a selection process at the school level before being chosen for the IYSIE.

The male and female pair of Nagalinga (Cannonball) trees were apparently planted by Lakshmi Narayana Perumal temple priest MV Ramanujam some 36 years ago.
The now-elderly priest has been taking care of the trees since, and flowers from the trees have been primarily used in the daily poojas at the temple. The pair of trees, which have become familiar to the community, received their own theeba aaradhanai (blessing ceremony) on Wednesday.
