GOMBAK: A 22-year-old policeman has been arrested for allegedly extorting a bribe from a Palestinian man.
Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Zainal Mohamed Mohamed said the arrest was made following a report lodged by the victim's son on Monday (Nov 15) following a post on Twitter about the incident.
He added that investigations showed that the Palestinian man and his son were on their way to UIA Gombak when they were stopped at a roadblock in Batu 7, Jalan Gombak on Nov 9 at around 10.40am.
ACP Zainal said in a statement on Tuesday (Nov 16) that the man did not bring his passport and could only show a photo of it on his phone.
"It was alleged that the policeman took a bribe to release the father without any police action. Following that, an investigation was conducted, leading to the arrest of a 22-year-old policeman that is stationed at the Gombak police station," he said.
ACP Zainal said that the case was being investigated under Section 384 of Penal Code for extortion.
Those with additional information on the case are urged to contact investigating officer Insp Mohd Fildza Che Ibrahim at 016 953 7372.
