A live Sky News broadcast was interrupted after gunshots could be heard ringing in the background as the conflict between Poland and Belarus continues to escalate. Reporting from Bruzgi, Belarus, reporter Diana Magnay revealed the situation has worsened and revealed guns had been fired but was unable to say which side had fired them. As Ms Magnay delivered her report, she was forced to stop after further shots could be heard as she stood near the border.

Speaking on Sky News, presenter Kay Burley spoke to Ms Magney who was in Belarus and remarked a “serious situation” was unfolding.

Ms Magney told the programme: “We've heard quite a substantial amount of gunfire.

“I can't tell who is firing, whether it is on the Polish or the Belarussian side whether these are warning shots.

“But what we can see on social media is that they're happy that the migrants have moved away from the tarmac of the border crossing back into the woods.

“And they have been throwing stones across at the Polish border guard and police, thousands of whom have been gathered there for the past few days.

“The Poles in response have been firing water cannons back.

“We've been here for about an hour and a half and we're not allowed into the border area and we were told three hours ago that we wouldn't be allowed in.

“So clearly, the Belarusian authorities knew that something was up…”

Ms Magney paused her broadcast and pointed towards the sky as gunshots could be heard ringing in the distance.

The cameraman then zoomed into the direction of the border to show crowds gathering.

Ms Magney said “a fair amount” of troops had been at the border to manage the migrants and saw many dogs moving into the crowds.

The reporter revealed many migrants have now left the main border entrances and have instead moved to the less monitored forested areas to break down fences.

She added the Belarussian Government has been accused of manufacturing the crisis and repeated she has been prevented from reporting at the border by their authorities.

Ms Magney predicted Belarus likely was aware something would happen at the border today hence why journalists have been locked out.

It is not the first time Belarus has been hostile towards journalists with reporter Roman Protasevich being arrested by Belarus authorities after they falsely grounded his plane on terrorism threats.
