JOHOR BARU: Another Johor MCA leader has received a threat from a suspected loan shark for helping victims settle their cases.

Pasir Gudang MCA Public Complaints Bureau chief Lim Thow Siang said he received a voice message from a Singapore-registered number at 2.38pm on Monday.

“The person identified himself as ‘Sky’ and he cursed and made threats against me in Hokkien, saying he would burn down my house for ‘meddling’ in his affairs.

“This is not the first time that I have communicated with Sky as a majority of loan shark cases that I have been dealing with during the last one year involved him,” he told a press conference at the division headquarters here in Taman Johor Jaya yesterday.

Lim said this was the first time that Sky had contacted and threatened him, adding that Sky had also admitted to being the person responsible for making threats against MCA national public complaints and service bureau deputy chief Chua Jian Boon.

He said loan sharks in Singapore would target Malaysians working in the island republic by offering low interest rates to entice them to seek loans.

He added that the low interest rates they purportedly offered was just a ploy as victims were then forced to pay double the amount taken or the loan sharks would threaten their families living in Malaysia.

When asked about the threat against him for highlighting loan shark cases, Lim, who lodged a report with the police, said he would continue offering his services to victims.

“I hope more victims will come forward and lodge reports with the police so that action can be taken against this syndicate,” he said.

When contacted, Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak confirmed receiving the report from Lim, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code.

Last month, Chua’s family house in Kulai was splashed with red paint.

The culprit left behind a note stating “This is just the start” in front of the house.

State police are investigating the matter.
