Angela Rayner has stood by calling Boris Johnson “a fraud, a con artist, a charlatan, and a liar”, saying 'I keep calling him out and I'll continue to keep calling him out”. The Labour Party deputy leader appeared unrepentant as she was confronted about the divisive language she has repeatedly used to discuss the Government.
Ms Rayner continued: “And the context of that, and I've asked to meet with Boris Johnson about his language because, you know, he has made homophobic, racist and misogynistic comments and he's never apologised for them.”
Mr Mair asked: “But you’re responsible for the words that come out of your mouth, and you're calling him a fraud or a con artist, and you stand by that?
Labour's deputy leader replied: “Of course! And he's shown to be doing that, because, you know, we heard yesterday that the Prime Minister was gonna agree to our motion, which was the first step really in cleaning up the sleaze and the corruption that we're seeing.
“I mean, even the former prime minister, has condemned this Prime Minister's actions and yet we think today that they're trying to water down our motion, because you don't want to deal with the issue.
Ms Rayner replied: “Well, yeah, I have said that, I've levelled that up at the Prime Minister's door.”
Angela Rayner was reported to have called Tory ministers a "bunch of scum" at a Labour conference event.
She said she will apologise for calling Boris Johnson "scum" when he retracts past comments she described as homophobic, racist and misogynistic.
MPs on Wednesday voted 297 to nil to back Downing Street plans to restrict outside work to “reasonable limits” and prohibit parliamentary advice or consultancy amid sleaze row.
Boris Johnson admitted that it was a “total mistake” to back MP Owen Paterson, who was found to have broken lobbying rules.
