BBC Question Time: French audience member in brutal swipe at Britain '50 years behind!'

The Question Time guest compared the French high-speed TGV rail network built in the 1970s to the transport links the UK currently offers travelers. The UK rail infrastructure has come under the spotlight following the Conservative Government's decision to scrap part of the HS2 high-speed rail link between Birmingham and Leeds. The woman told the Question Time panel that the UK's rail infrastructure was decades behind the service operating in France.

The Question Time guest said: "I grew up in France in the 1970s when the TGV was launched.

"So I am afraid England is about 50 years behind times."

"Alright," replied BBC host Fiona Bruce.

"That has put us in our place."
