Greeting the Royals, host Alan Carr caused raised eyebrows when he joked with Prince William that he wasn't "hitting on his wife" after complimenting the "beautiful" Duchess. The evening marked the 94th annual performance in aid of the Royal Variety Charity, of which the Queen is Patron. The Monarch wrote a letter to the charity sending her best wishes for the evening.
