Police put out an alert and their search was on the brink of being made into a major operation when the child was found in the backyard pool of what is thought to be the family home.

Paramedics tried to revive the tot but sadly he could not be saved.

Cops are now investigating the youngster's death.

Forensic investigators have been seen at the home in Greenfields, but the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Real estate photos taken in 2017 appear to show the home's pool is not tightly enclosed but is not accessible from the house, reports 7News.

There is a small side gate to access the pool, however.

Royal Life Saving Australia has now warned parents "minutes can make the difference" with incidents involving water and children.

“It’s so important that parents’ first port of call is to check the water bodies around the home - a bathtub or a swimming pool,” a spokesperson told the outlet.

“Timing is really imperative, and minutes can make the difference.”

In the past 12 months, cases of children under the age of five drowning in Australia have more than doubled in the past 12 months.

Covid has driven down the availability of swimming lessons.
