A man was shot Saturday evening inside a grocery on Leesburg Pike in Fairfax County, police said.
The man was taken to a hospital from the Food Star store in the 5500 block of Leesburg Pike, with injuries that were considered life-threatening, police said.

Police were called about 6:45 p.m. by someone who said he had shot someone in the store, said 2nd Lt. James Curry, a county police spokesman.
The caller said the shooting was in self-defense, Curry said in a telephone interview.
Curry said police were interviewing the man.
As of late Saturday night, there was no report of any charges in the incident.
In a tweet sent about 8:50 p.m., police said they were still investigating.

It was not clear whether any weapons were found at the scene.
Also unclear was whether anyone in the store was a witness.
No names or ages were released.
The store, in the Baileys Crossroads area, is northwest of the Skyline Towers development and southeast of the intersection of Leesburg and Columbia pikes.
Online reports indicated that the store had opened about two years ago in space once occupied by a toy shop.
