A 46-year-old passenger in a ride-share vehicle was killed in a crash and the driver of the vehicle he had been riding in also was critically injured on Jean Baptiste Point DuSable Lake Shore Drive in the city’s Gold Coast neighborhood early Sunday, officials said.
The man was killed when someone driving a red sedan struck the Toyota SUV he was traveling in shortly before 12:30 a.m. Sunday. The Toyota flipped on its side, police said, ejecting the man from the vehicle. He was pronounced on the scene, police said.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office had not released information as to his identity Sunday.
The driver of the Toyota also was injured in the crash, said Walter Schroeder, a spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department. The driver was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, he said.
The driver of a “secondary vehicle” refused medical attention, Schroeder said, but he wasn’t able to say whether that person had been the driver of the red sedan that hit the Toyota.
