KOTA KINABALU: Seven men have been arrested in connection with a group fighting incident by the beach at Traulsen Park.
The incident, which was recorded on video and widely circulated on social media, was believed to have occurred following a misunderstanding between two groups of people.
It was learnt that a group of repossessors had gone to the place to repossess a vehicle but the owners and his friends were unhappy about it.
As seen in the videos, some of the men had weapons such as sticks with them.
Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Peter Umbuas said the seven men were nabbed between 7pm on Nov 22 and 4am on Nov 23.
"The suspects aged between 23 and 38 will be remanded until Thursday (Nov 25) to facilitate investigations into this case," he said.
An eighth suspect identified as Jumadin Baba, 35, was still at large, he added.
His last address was Kampung Pasir Putih, Bukit Gemuk, Tawau.
ACP Peter said drug abuse elements could have been present in this case as well.
He said police would not tolerate such incidents as they could threaten public safety.
