‘Radiant’ Queen flooded with well-wishes following meeting with Bank of England Governor

Her Majesty, 95, met with the Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey, 62, for her second in-person royal engagement this week having knighted Professor Sir Huw Thomas on Tuesday. The Queen’s decision to hold an audience with the UK’s leading financial chief comes after she took a backward step from royal duties for medical reasons.

Elizabeth missed out on attending the COP26 summit after having an overnight stay at a London hospital and then pushed back her Remembrance Sunday return with a sprained back.

However, Mr Bailey’s 25-mile trip from Threadneedle Street to Windsor Castle appears to have been seen as an encouraging sign for fans of the Firm.

The official Royal Family Instagram account posted a picture of the Governor and the Queen from the Oak Room at Her Majesty’s Berkshire address.

Beneath the post, which received 97,229 likes in just 11-hours, the Queen was flooded with well-wishes from supporters of the royals.

The post was captioned: “The Queen today received Mr Andrew Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England, for an Audience at Windsor Castle.

“As Head of State, Her Majesty regularly meets notable diplomatic, religious, military and political figures.”

One account, using the handle @callmeshani_, said: “Her Majesty is looking radiant!

“I hope she is feeling better; she looks very pretty.”

However, one user appeared concerned that Her Majesty’s visitor was not wearing a face mask.

@georgiamo66 said: “It really bothers me that people meeting face to face with Her Majesty are not wearing masks to protect her!”

According to the most recent update on the UK Government website, Britons are advised and recommended to “continue to wear face coverings in crowded and enclosed spaces where you come into contact with people you don’t normally meet” even though “there is no longer a legal requirement to wear face coverings in indoor settings or on public transport”.
