JOHOR BARU: A 35-year-old man has been arrested for attempting to abduct a teenage schoolgirl.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the suspect, who tested positive for methamphetamine, was nabbed in Senawang, Negri Sembilan, at around 8.53pm on Saturday (Nov 27).

He said a search operation was launched after a 13-year-old student managed to flee an abduction attempt in front of her school in Taman Molek here on Nov 25.

“Along with the arrest, we seized the suspect’s mobile phone, a black shirt and a pair of jeans.

“The suspect also has a previous record for criminal and drug offences,” he said Sunday (Nov 28).

Comm Ayob Khan added that the suspect has been placed under remand for four days until Dec 1 for investigation under Section 363 of the Penal Code for abduction, which carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine upon conviction.

It was previously reported that the incident took place at around 6.50am when the victim was walking to school.

An unidentified man, driving a car, approached the victim and asked the girl to submit some forms to the school before persuading her to get into the car.

The student refused and was dragged into the vehicle.

The victim then managed to escape unhurt about 400m from the scene after the vehicle zoomed off and a video of the attempted abduction went viral on social media.
