PETALING JAYA: There will be as many as 32 bus trips daily across the Causeway ferrying as many as 2,880 passengers between Malaysia and Singapore through the Vaccinated Travel Link (VTL) land route, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister was at the Woodlands Checkpoint in Singapore on Monday (Nov 29) to accompany Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob for the launch of the VTL-Land with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Monday (Nov 29).

"Hopefully, with this VTL, relationships between family members and friends who have been separated for so long can be strengthened, besides helping to restore the economy," the MCA president said in a Facebook post Monday.

Dr Wee added that the Malaysian entourage also included Senior Minister and International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali; Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah; Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong; and Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad, as well as other senior officials.

He also said that Singapore was represented by Senior Minister Teo Chee Hian, Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister of Transport S. Iswaran, Trade Minister Gan Kim Yong.

The 97-year old Causeway, which is also known as Tambak Johor, was closed to 400,000-odd travellers daily since mid-March 2020 to curb the spread of the deadly Covid-19 virus.
