'Nothing worse than a dithering PM!' Shock poll shows Boris support waning

The poll on Wednesday November 24 came two days after the Prime Minister made a heavily-criticised speech to business leaders. During the speech, he compared himself to Moses, quoted Lenin, lost his place for 21 seconds, made car engine noises - and went on a tangent about his trip to Peppa Pig world.

       -------------------------

The speech was described as "shambolic" by Labour Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves, and "rambling" by Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey.

It followed reports suggesting the Prime Minister told colleagues, at a meeting of backbenchers that he had "crashed the car", in reference to attempts to help a former cabinet minister who broke rules on lobbying the Government.

Last week, the Prime Minister angered French counterpart Emmanuel Macron by tweeting suggestions of how to tackle the migrant crisis. This led to Britain being disinvited to crisis talks between European ministers.

Letters of no confidence have been filed by Conservative MPs in an attempt to challenge Mr Johnson’s leadership.

Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab has insisted Mr Johnson is "on great form".

On Sky News on Sunday, Trevor Phillips asked Health Secretary Sajid Javid: “This week the Prime Minister lost his place in a big speech, he sung the praises of a cartoon pig, he saw his majority cut from 80 to 26 on one of your key policies – social care, and he triggered a diplomatic row with the French when we absolutely – as you’ve just been telling me – need their cooperation; Do you think Boris Johnson is an election winner?”

To which Sajid Javid replied: “Yes absolutely.”

The majority of Express.co.uk readers appear to disagree with Mr Javid, as 58 percent of voters said the Prime Minister is not fit to do the job, in a poll of 4,303 people, held from November 24 to 29.

Stephen West commented: “Boris Johnson is losing so much support because he just will not deliver!"

He added: “With every day he is appearing weaker and weaker and weaker, both at home and abroad.

“There is nothing worse than having a dithering PM.”

An Express reader, going by ‘London town’, wrote: “He has lost the plot and won’t do what the voters want to get Brexit done and get the UK out fully from the EU, and he keeps calling the EU our ‘friends’. They are not Boris.”

Although the majority of Express voters appear to have lost faith in the Prime Minister, a significant portion (42 percent) believe he is still fit to do the job.

One reader, going by ‘Sprulces’, said: “The Tories are forgetting that he won them an 80 seat majority in the election.

“He's not perfect but none of them are.

“Boris can connect with the people like no other Tory candidate, it will be a huge mistake to oust him.”

Maureen E wrote: “Boris is simply the best. He will get things done.”

While Christopher499 took a more pessimistic approach: “Johnson is just the best of a poor bunch and that’s no recommendation.

“None of them are fit to run the country, be it Tory, Labour or Liberal.”
