PUTRAJAYA: Health authorities reported 50 new clusters during epidemiology week 47, with almost half or 22 clusters involving workplaces.

Between Nov 21 and 27, there were 13 clusters reported involving education institutions, six community and high-risk groups respectively, two religious activities and one cluster involving a detention centre.

Health director-general Tan Dr Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the number of clusters reported during epidemiology week 47 saw a significant increase from the week before, which recorded 38 new clusters.

In epidemiology week 46, the breakdown of the number of clusters reported were 22 (workplace), nine (education institutions), five (community), and two clusters involving high-risk groups.

“The increase in cases under all cluster categories except for workplace and imported clusters are worrying," said Dr Noor Hisham.

“The numbers show that there is an increase in social activities but level of SOP compliance has begun to be taken lightly,” he added in a statement on Tuesday (Nov 30).

Dr Noor Hisham pointed out that data also reflected that there is an 8.9% increase in the number of compound notices issued for failure to put on face masks.

Nine new clusters were reported on Tuesday, bringing the cumulative number of clusters to 5,947.

Currently, there are 231 active clusters.

The number of Covid-19 recoveries outnumbered new cases yesterday, where 5,168 patients had recovered on Nov 30.

The number of new cases were 4,879, bringing the cumulative number of those infected with coronavirus to 2,632,782 since the pandemic started last year.

Dr Noor Hisham said of the new cases, 24 were imported cases involving 16 Malaysians and eight non-citizens.

“Those requiring attention at intensive care units totalled 509, with 394 confirmed Covid-19 cases while 115 patients are suspected, probable and under investigation for coronavirus,” he said.
