Former KK MP calls for united political front for Sabah, S'wak, vows not to trust peninsula-based parties

KOTA KINABALU: A united political front from Sabah and Sarawak will allow better representation in the government, says Datuk Jimmy Wong in calling for such a front to be formed.

The former Kota Kinabalu MP said after quitting the DAP recently, he had vowed never to trust any peninsula-based party to work for the people in Sabah, due to their broken promises, among other factors.

As such, he said it would benefit Sabah and Sarawak more if these two Bornean states unite and work as a single entity to fight for the overdue rights of Sabahans and Sarawakians.

“After all these years in DAP, having witnessed the change of government following GE14 and then the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government, and having another peninsula-based government come into power, I can say that Sabah and Sarawak will never get what is due,” Wong said.

He said promises of giving Sabah and Sarawak the equal partnership recognition it deserved were made numerous times, but even simple matters like allocating fair ministerial posts to Sabah and Sarawak-based party leaders could not be met.

“Promises to give us back what we deserve also are never met,” Wong said.

“Therefore, I will never trust any peninsula-based party anymore,” he stressed when asked whether he would consider returning to Sabah DAP following the appeal from DAP leaders such as current state chairman Datuk Frankie Poon.

Meanwhile, the former Sri Tanjong assemblyman and former Sabah DAP chairman said he expected to announce "something big" on his next political move soon.

Wong, who was also assistant minister to the chief minister during the Parti Warisan Sabah-led state government, said nothing was impossible and he was confident that he can still contribute to the state political arena.
