SEPANG: The transportation sector will not be disrupted despite the emergence of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 in a number of countries, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
He said the ministry would be guided by the decisions made during Tuesday’s Covid-19 Quartet Ministers meeting in which the government said it would delay the country’s transition to the endemic phase as it wanted to learn more about the new variant.
“When we look towards the endemic stage, there are certain strategies. So, I think that it is not a problem,” he said after the launch of the Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre here yesterday.
He was asked whether the emergence of Omicron would affect the transportation sector.
Dr Wee said for now, there was a need for a monitoring and assessment period by the Health Ministry.
On Tuesday, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the government had decided to delay the country’s transition to the endemic phase as there was too much uncertainty regarding the spread of Omicron.
