IPOH: There will be a slight delay in the delivery of vegetables from Cameron Highlands following the landslide at Jalan Simpang Pulai-Blue Valley.

Cameron Highlands Vegetable Transport Vehicle Owners’ Association chairman Kwang Ee Fu said the alternative road – Jalan Tapah-Cameron Highlands – is narrow and windy, forcing them to drive slowly.

“As the road in Simpang Pulai has been closed off, drivers have been forced to use Jalan Tapah-Cameron Highlands and it will take some time to reach their destinations.

“Congestion could also build up, delaying the arrival of the transportation by one to two hours,” he said when contacted.

“It is somewhat fortunate that the road was reopened on the same day of the landslide incident near Simpang Pulai,” he said, adding that Jalan Tapah-Cameron Highlands was temporarily closed last month due to landslides.

“Due to this latest incident, many lorries from the highlands have already been forced to make a U-turn near Simpang Pulai back to the highlands to use Jalan Tapah-Cameron Highlands for their downhill journey,” he added.

Jalan Simpang Pulai-Blue Valley was closed following a landslide at KM34 at 1.40pm yesterday.

Kwang urged the government, including the Public Works Department, to assess all hilly areas deemed risky before rainy seasons.
