Nine people were taken to a hospital and two suffered life-threatening injuries in an apartment fire in Herndon, Va., on Thursday evening, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue said.
Fire and rescue units were called to the three-story garden-style apartment in the 800 block of Park Avenue about 5:30 p.m. for the report of a fire, Ashley Hildebrandt, a spokesperson for Fairfax County Fire and Rescue, said in a statement.

Upon arrival, fire and rescue units “saw fire coming from the second floor” and additional crews were called , Hildebrandt said.
Several people got out on their own, and the fire was brought under control, Hildebrandt said.
Nine people were taken to a hospital and two sustained life-threatening injuries, Hildebrandt said.
Multiple units in the apartment are “uninhabitable,” Hildebrandt said.
Fire investigators are remaining at the scene, she said.
