Maros Sefcovic and Lord Frost held talks today in what is the seventh week of negotiations. Despite the intensive talks between the two sides, British officials have insisted any agreement to resolve issues surrounding the Northern Ireland protocol will not be agreed on Friday. Indeed, British officials have revealed a separate agreement on medicine supplies will not be found between the two, Politico reports.
The EU has pledged to allow the UK to be the main regulator for medicines but Lord Frost has insisted the majority of checks on goods and the role of the European Court of Justice must be removed from the protocol.
If no deal is agreed, Mr Sefcovic claimed the EU may move unilaterally on medicines.
Following today's talks, former member of the European Parliament Ben Habib slammed Lord Frost saying: "Why do you want a negotiated settlement?
"Are you so devoid of agency, you cannot see a route for sovereign British action? Wasn't that the point of Brexit?"
