KUCHING: Caretaker Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg (pic) has arrived at the Gedong nomination centre ahead of it's 9am opening.

The GPS chairman walked towards the Gedong community hall, greeted by the chants of "Hidup GPS" from his supporters in the surrounding area.

This is his first time contesting in Gedong, a seat that has traditionally been won by his Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB)

Earlier, his challenger for the Gedong seat - Parti Bumi Kenyalang's Tomson Ango - arrived at the nomination centre at 8.30am.

However, authorities at the nomination centre said Tomson and his proposers can only enter the hall at 9am.

The next to arrive is Pakatan Harapan's candidate for the Gedong seat, Kamal Bujang of Parti Amanah Negara.

Kamal arrived at about 8.45am and was also told to wait until 9am to be allowed into the nomination centre.

He is a retired teacher with more than 30 years of experience and was the headmaster of a school in Simunjan. After his retirement, he decided to devote himself to politics full time. This is the first time he has been fielded as an election candidate.

Another candidate in Gedong is Mohamad Sofian Fariz Sharbini, who is representing Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).

With Amanah and Parti Bumi Kenyalang, Abang Johari looks set to be in a four-way contest in Gedong.
