ALOR SETAR: Six more students from Maktab Mahmud Sik tested positive for Covid-19 under the Dah Pelangi cluster, bringing the total number of cases to 30.

       Kedah Health and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Hayati Othman said this follows after 44 individuals from the college took the Covid-19 tests.

       "From the screening, 14 individuals were reported negative so far, while one student was treated at the Kulim Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) and has not been allowed to return.

       “Another was treated at Sik Hospital but was allowed to leave last Friday (Dec 3)," he said in a statement Monday (Dec 6).

       On Friday, Dr Mohd Hayati was quoted in a media report as saying that the Kedah Health Department reported an education cluster where 24 students from Maktab Mahmud Sik, Taman Pelangi Jaya, Sik tested positive for Covid-19.

       The cluster involved male dormitory students who were detected after some of them were found to be suffering from symptoms on Nov 28.

       All patients were in category one and quarantined in the dormitory.

       They were reported to be in stable condition. The students were fully vaccinated except for one who failed to obtain the consent of his guardians.

       "The school has been given a week off, while students who live in hostels must stay put and others are allowed to be confined in their own residence," he said. - Bernama
