JOHOR BARU: A loyal reader of The Star will be spending this Christmas with a brand new watch on her wrist after scoring a luxury timepiece worth RM50,000.
Leng Yeok Har (pic) said she was delighted when she learned that she emerged as the first prize winner of a Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronograph Manufacture 44mm in Star Media Group’s (SMG) Subscribe and Win contest.
“I was not aware that when I renewed my newspaper subscription in September, I was automatically eligible for the contest.
“The prize is also timely because my old watch, which is about 30 years old, stopped working recently.”
“I went to several watch outlets but they could not repair it as there were no longer any spare parts for it. Looks like I do not have to buy a new one anymore,” said the mother of three from Klang, Selangor.
Leng, who has been subscribing to The Star for about three decades, was thankful that her son had reminded her to renew the subscription.
Otherwise, she said she would have missed the chance to win the prize.
“This is a wonderful Christmas present for me and I intend to wear it soon. My husband is quite happy for me too. And luckily he does not like wearing watches, so I can keep it for myself,” said the 67-year-old retired clerk.
The Star50 Subscribe and Win contest was held in partnership with Swiss Watch Gallery and in conjunction with SMG’s 50th anniversary bash.
The second prize winner of a Oris Artelier Calibre 112 timepiece worth RM28,000 was a woman who wanted to be known only as Elizabeth from Pahang.
As for the third prize, Teoh Swee Ying, a mother of two from Kepong, Selangor won the ML Aikon Automatic 39mm watch from Maurice Lacroix worth RM9,500.
Those who subscribed or renewed their subscription from Sept 16 until Nov 11 were eligible for the recently-concluded contest.
The contest took place shortly after SMG’s 50 Days of Giveaways, which gave away a red Mazda2 hatchback as the top prize last month.
