People in the Chicago area were buttoning up on Tuesday.

The temperature in the city early in the day reached the lowest it’s been since Feb. 26, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures fell to 13 degrees, between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. Tuesday, weather service meteorologist Jake Petr said.

While a wave of dry air kept the snow off the ground in the city, Petr said, areas of the north and northwestern suburbs did see a dusting.

The weather service warned motorists to watch road conditions.

While the week is starting out chilly, Petr forecast much warmer weather ahead with temperatures possibly reaching the mid-50s by Friday. The weather service’s Climate Prediction Center predicted unseasonably warm weather for two weeks starting next week with more than an 80% chance temperatures will be well above the seasonal norm.

“The main thing is it’s going to be a little chillier (Wednesday) but temperatures will be trending warmer,” Petr said. “We’ve just got to get through this little stretch of cold here.”

Warming centers are available at the city’s six community service centers scattered throughout the city, the Department of Family & Support Services said. The warming centers are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on days when temperatures are below 32 degrees.

Unless in extreme circumstances, the centers are not open during the evenings or early mornings.

Warming centers are at the following locations:

Englewood Community Service Center, 1140 W. 79th St. Garfield Community Service Center, 10 S. Kedzie Ave. Dr. Martin Luther King Community Service Center, 4314 S. Cottage Grove Ave. North Area Community Service Center, 845 W. Wilson Ave. South Chicago Community Service Center, 8650 S. Commercial Ave. Trina Davila Community Service Center, 4312 W. North Ave.
