Speaking to Jeremy Vine on Wednesday, author Christina Patterson could not hold back her emotions as she reacted to the allegation that a Christmas party was held in Downing Street at the height of Tier 3 lockdown restrictions on December 18, 2020 despite millions of Britons following the rules as hundreds of thousands died.

Following the news, Ms Patterson said: “I am crying now.

“I am having to fight off the tears because I can’t believe that we have a Prime Minister who knew that party happened.”

She noted how Boris Johnson also reportedly attended another party on December 27 where he commented that it was “a packed room”.

The furious guest went on to say how she “can’t believe” Britain has a Government that has “bare-facedly lies to people”.

She stressed this point as she referenced the 146,000 British people who have died during the pandemic as others have followed the rules laid down by the Government.

Ms Patterson said: “Many of them could not even say goodbye to their relatives because they were following the rules that the Prime Minister and his colleagues broke.

“And the idea that he is blaming his subordinates when he is the boss I find it absolutely outrageous and heartbreaking!”

The heartbroken guest went on to brand Mr Johnson a “disgusting Prime Minister” for the actions of his Government and those in Number 10.

Her comments follow a report in The Mirror newspaper and later, footage obtained by ITV from December 22, of the Prime Minister's former spokeswoman Allegra Stratton laughing off a question during a mock press conference about the Christmas party in question.

Ms Stratton was asked by adviser Ed Oldfield: “I’ve just seen reports on Twitter that there was a Downing Street Christmas party on Friday night, do you recognise those reports?”

Laughing, Ms Stratton said "this fictional party was a business meeting and it was not socially distanced".

She resigned from her role as COP26 spokeswoman on Wednesday following the emergence of the footage, apologising for not meeting the standards expected from N.10.

       DON'T MISS

No.10 initially did not say the reports of a party were inaccurate but said all rules had been followed, before later denying any party had taken place.

On Wednesday evening Mr Johnson plunged the UK into a fresh raft of Covid restrictions under Plan B of the winter plan.

From Friday, all Britons who can will be ordered to work from home, mandatory mask wearing will be required in indoor spaces and vaccine passports, or proof of a negative lateral flow test, will be required for larger venues and event settings.
